Lisa Ray Wins Cancer Battle



Lisa Ray, the Canadian-born actress and model has returned to the limelight after a brave fight with Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of cancer. Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the white blood cells or plasma cells in the bone marrow that grow excessively and destroy the bones and nerves. Though multiple Myeloma is incurable till date, it can be contained through steroids, chemotherapy, thalidomide and stem cell transplants.

The 38-year-old actress fought her battle with the deadly cancer with chemotherapy and stem cell treatment and says she feels rejuvenated and is ready for fresh acting and modeling assignments. Said Lisa, “This has hijacked my life for long enough and now I am going to take matters into my own hands. It's really been a kind of rebirth. It's like being reborn from the inside out. It's a big cleaning from the middle of your marrow and spreading out.”

Born to an Indian father and a Polish mother Lisa Ray blogged as she battled cancer for over 10 months and her humorous Yellow Diaries won more admirers for her than ever before. Lisa is all set to visit India and is excited about a publishing contract in India, details of which are still in suspense.

Lisa Ray says she will continue to raise awareness for Multiple Myeloma and the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research will receive a part of the proceeds from the ticket sales of her movie “Cooking with Stella” screened at the Indian film festival in Los Angeles. (Source-Medindia)
